As well as providing activities to the public Rapid Horizons also offers a wide range of paddlesport courses aimed at outdoor professionals looking to work within the industry.


Rapid Horizons was founded by Jon Best in 2011.

After retiring from competitive Freestyle Kayaking in 2009 having won British & European Cup titles, Jon decided to turn his hand to coaching the sport White Water Kayaking. 

Working winter seasons in Uganda on the Nile River and summer seasons in Canada on the Ottawa, Jon quickly became experienced in not only river leading but also managing large commercial river operations.

  • BC River Raft Guide Trip Leader

  • IRF Grade 4/5 Trip Leader

  • White Water Safety & Rescue Technician

  • BC Level 3 Inland Kayak Coach

  • BC Advanced White Water Leader



Rapid Horizons is Licensed by the Adventure Activities Licensing Service.

AALS is the licensing service for outdoor activity centres for young people in Great Britain.
Part of the Health and Safety Executive AALS inspects the safety standards of outdoor activity centres and issues licenses accordingly. 

Rapid Horizons is a British Canoeing Quality Marked Centre.

British Canoeing are the National Governing Body for paddlesport in the UK. 

Quality Mark is British Canoeing’s Kite Mark for canoe clubs & paddlesport centres.
The achievement of this standard also meets the criteria specified in Club Mark, Sport England’s cross sport accreditation scheme. This demonstrates best practice in the running and management of sports clubs and is recognised throughout England.
